You have your adorable quiet book patterns, you’ve made your amazing quiet book page. Now what? In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to bind quiet book page edges to finish your page like a pro.
Preparing Binding Strips
To start, you’ll need cotton fabric in your choice of color.
Measure 1.5 inches from the edge of the fabric.
Mark your measurement with a disappearing ink pen.
Use scissors to make a small cut in the fabric.
Tear the full length of the fabric to make a binding strip.
Repeat to create as many binding strips as needed.
Your binding strip should measure 1.5 inches wide by roughly 40 inches long.
Iron binding strip to remove any creases.
Align binding strip with edge of quiet book page.
Fold over top edge of binding strip.
Sewing Binding Strips
Machine sew a straight stitch 3/8 inches from edge of page.
Stop 3/8 inches from bottom of page (use 45 degree angle corner guide if possible)
Rotate page 45 degrees.
Sew corner angle until you’ve past the edge of the page.
Release presser foot and rotate page.
Fold binding strip so it aligns with top and side edge of page.
Rotate page 45 degrees.
Sew corner angle from opposite direction.
Stop 3/8 inches from edge.
Rotate page 45 degrees.
Continue sewing straight stitch until you’ve reached the next corner. Repeat for all 4 corners.
Continue until you’ve reached your starting point. Cut any excess length from end of binding strip.
Folding Over Binding
With the first side of the binding strip sewn, your page should now look like the following.
Fold binding strip over.
Take care to fold the corners smoothly.
Flip the page over.
Fold binding over so it aligns with the edge of the page.
Fold binding over again to cover the seam.
Your binding should now look like the following.
Use pins to hold binding in place.
Repeat on all four sides.
Flatten corners of binding so it looks like the following.
Pin into place.
Position corner of binding to look like the following.
Fold over to create binding corner.
Pin into place.
Repeat for all four corners.
Finishing Quiet Book Binding
Machine sew a straight stitch along the inner edge of the binding.
Your quiet book page binding is now complete!
