This colorful noodles sensory bin is a treat for the hands and they eyes. The beautiful colors and squishy texture of dyed spaghetti noodles will have your kids jumping at the chance to dig right in and play!
As part of my ongoing series, ABC Sensory, we’ve been exploring a different sensory activity for each letter of the alphabet. And for today’s letter N sensory bin, we’ll be making a colorful Noodles Sensory Bin! In this post I’ll show you exactly how easy it is to make. Materials Needed
Letter N Shapes (upper case and lower case)
Directions
Start by making your spaghetti noodles the same way you would normally make spaghetti. But slightly undercook them – a minute or two less than normal – so they stay a bit more firm and don’t break when playing with them.
Drain and separate the spaghetti into several ziplock bags – whatever number of colors you’d like to make. (We made six: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple)
Add several drops of vegetable oil and several drops of food coloring to each bag.
Seal the bags closed and shake the noodles around to coat them in color.
Let them sit for a few minutes to allow the color to fully saturate. Then, rinse the noodles under cold water to remove any excess food coloring.
Now you’re ready to add them to your sensory bin.
We also choose to add letter N’s to our sensory bin to help reinforce the letter we were learning about.
And that’s it! Let the kids dig in!
Make It A Game
Try pushing all the letter N’s under the noodles and let the kids try and find them all!
Sneak In Some Learning
As your child is playing, try asking questions like:
“What letter are we learning about today?”
“What sound does the letter N make?”
“N is for what?…. Noodles!”
