HOW TO MAKE AN EXPLODING VOLCANO FOR SENSORY PLAY

Learn how to make an exploding volcano for sensory play.  Get started with just a few simple supplies and create hours of hands-on sensory fun for the little ones!

As part of my ongoing series, ABC Sensory, we’ve been exploring a different sensory activity for each letter of the alphabet.  And for today’s letter V sensory play, we’ll be making an exploding Volcano!  In this post I’ll show you exactly how easy it is to make.  Plus, I created a FREE checklist to help you make your own ABC sensory bins.  Click the link to get access before getting started: FREE Idea Checklist: How To Create ABC Sensory Bins.

Supplies

Directions

Start by filling a pot with dirt.  In the center of the dirt, dig a hole and place an empty glass jar (we used an old salsa jar).  Push the dirt around the jar so only the opening is visible.

Add some letter V’s around the dirt to help reinforce that V is for Volcano.

Inside the glass jar, add about one tablespoon of baking soda and several drops of red food coloring.

Then slowly pour vinegar into the top of the glass jar and watch your volcano explode!

Sneak In Some Learning

As your child is playing, try asking questions like:

“What letter are we learning about today?”

“What sound does the letter V make?”

“V is for what?…. Volcano!”
